Why should I buy Indiana Grown Products?
There are many benefits to buying locally grown, raised and produced products.
- Keeping money local: supporting local businesses of all kinds keeps money in our local economy. Local business owners spend a higher percentage of their income with other local businesses. Buying locally also builds job opportunities.
- Transparency: when your farmer is across the market table, instead of across the country, you have more opportunities to ask questions and get to know the people and practices behind your food. This open and direct communication creates deeper connection and trust and gives you more control over your food choices.
- Encourages connections with food: When we have a relationship with our food producers, we feel good about knowing where our money is going. When we know the people involved in growing and producing our food it creates a strong relationship and with that comes trust.
- Embracing Seasonality and Fresher Ingredients: When you purchase food locally it will be fresher, since it’s harvested and/or packaged more recently and doesn’t require it to be shipped long distances. You will also be able to eat seasonally, trying different foods, recipes and enjoying the best the season has to offer.
