Tina’s Traditional® Tearoom Recipe – Grandmas 1,2,3,4 cake bars

This recipe is from Tina’s Grandmas recipe collection and can be modified to add different flavors to the cake.

Tina says this recipe is easier than a cake mix.  Tina recommends using golden raisins to create Grandmas Country Bars

Ingredients:

1 egg

2oz margarine

3oz sugar (brown sugar makes for a darker tastier cake)

4 oz flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 tablespoon of milk

1oz black raisins, golden raisins, candied cherries or choc chips

Method

1.Beat egg

2.Cream margarine and sugar together using a wooden spoon

3. Add half the egg and half flour to creamed butter and sugar. Mix well

4. Add the remaining egg and flour and mix well

5. Add a tablespoon full of milk to make a loose mixture

6. Place in a greased brownie tin lined with greased parchment paper

7. Bake at 400F for 15 mins until firm

8. Let cool and cut in to 4 squares and the cut each square in to 2 bars. Makes 8

Variations: Add candied cherries or dates or lemon  to change the flavor of this bar.
