Slaughter Orchard & Cidery – Bloomington, IN

It all began with a 130-year-old apple press, and the rest they say is history. Zach McIntosh along with Tara & Clay Slaughter operate Slaughter Orchard & Cidery in Bloomington, IN. Slaughter Orchard is home to over 150 dwarf apple trees, 23 different variety of culinary and dessert apples and 19 varieties of cider apples with plans to expand the orchard this year. Along with selling ready to eat apples they produce high-quality artisanal sweet & hard ciders, apple butter and apple cider jelly. Did you know it takes 3-5 years for apple trees to bear fruit?
The family has been pressing and preserving a variety of fruit for decades. With a family full of educators, they’ve passed these skills on to their growing family. Now Slaughter Orchard & Cidery wants to help others understand the processes and skills to produce delicious homemade cider, jams, jellies, and more. Slaughter Orchard hosts classes throughout the year sharing insights into apple tree grafting, apple tree pruning, cider pressing, hard cider fermentation and more.
