Poptique joins fight against childhood cancer

Poptique Popcorn joined a fundraiser hosted by Meridian Title Corporation on Friday, Aug. 5 in Fort Wayne to raise money for the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a charity that funds research to fight childhood cancer.

Poptique owner Gary Hively said that one of the reasons he wanted to help raise money for the foundation was because of his daughter, Lindsey Hively, who lost her battle with cancer in 2015.

“I decided to make helping to get rid of cancer one of Poptique’s causes,” Hively said. “And I would like to see cancer eradicated.”

The popcorn business donated all of its proceeds at the event to the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. Between Meridian Title, Poptique, and Kona Ice, the event raised just over $1,000.

Trisha Murphy, an account manager at Meridian Title, said that the Fort Wayne office hopes to host it again next year, though it might be in the form of a walk or a run, where participants could enjoy lemonade at the end.

Hively said that he would like to join the fundraiser again next year.
